The best 4 interesting little museums in London

London is home to a lot of the world's most famous museums - The British Museum, The Natural History Museum and The Victoria & Albert Museum, for example - and while these are all undeniably impressive and worth a visit, there are a large number of cute, quirky and interesting little museums scattered across London that I've stumbled across over the years. Here are my top four, and I hope to add to this once lockdown eases.

1. The Wellcome Collection

The Wellcome Collection is a quirky, free museum that holds ever-changing, very varied exhibitions about different aspects of medical science in a fun and engaging way that is definitely interesting but doesn't require too much brain power to digest.

Their café on the ground floor is brilliant, too; go for the science, stay for the brownie.

Where: 183 Euston Rd, London NW1 2BE

Entry: free

2. The Sherlock Holmes Museum

The tiny Sherlock Holmes Museum is located at 221B Baker Street, London, one of the world’s most famous addresses (there's even a blue plaque above the museum for Sherlock).

Over three floors, you'll find the old cases and learn about both Sherlock and the detectives that were involved with him, including his confidant Dr Watson and Mrs Hudson.

Sherlock's statue is just around the corner on Marylebone Road.

Where: 221b Baker St, Marylebone, London NW1 6XE

Entry: £15 - a little expensive, but worth it for Sherlock fans!

3. Pollock's Toy Museum

This adorable little museum was first started in 1956 in a little attic room on Monmouth Street, near Covent Garden. It came to it’s current location in Fitzrovia in the 60s and it’s mostly a collection of Victorian toys.

The exhibitions explore the history of toys with a large range of toys from different time periods and also from different countries, including a 4000 years old ancient Egyptian mouse toy, the Indonesian puppets and the Asian dolls.

Where: 1 Scala St, Bloomsbury, London W1T 2HL

Entry: £9

Tucked away up a narrow spiral staircase in a centuries-old church attic in the shadow of the Shard is one of London’s most fascinating tiny museums. A complete old operating theatre – complete with original viewing steps in the round – and a museum of old surgical equipment. It’s a taste of London’s gory past. Check out their weekly events and talks too.

Where: 9a St Thomas Street SE1 9RY

Entry: £6.50
